Draupadi Murmu, born in the
Baldaposi village in the Kusumi block of Odisha's Mayurbhanj, a district which
has a 58 percent tribal population, the highest in Odisha. In 2007, she was
awarded the "Nilakantha Award" after being adjudged the best MLA in
the Odisha assembly for the year 2007.In 2015 then, Murmu became the first
tribal governor of the state of Jharkhand where she completed full term. So you
might wonder who is this person so much on your feed lately
Droupadi Murmu, former Governor of Jharkhand, is the BJP's candidate for the post of President of India. From her journey of being a junior assistant in the department of irrigation and power in Odisha to becoming the presidential candidate of the BJP-led NDA, it has been a long and hurdled journey for tribal leader Droupadi Murmu. A day after Murmu celebrated her 64th birthday, BJP President J. P. Nadda announced her candidacy.
Murmu, who was born on June 20,
1958, is also notable for becomes first female governor of Jharkhand. Murmu
will be the first female president elected after Independence if chosen, Murmu
will be India's first tribal President. In one of the country's remotest and
least developed districts, Murmu made her first steps while battling poverty.
She has a wide range of
administrative experience, having worked in the Odisha government's transport,
commerce, fisheries, and animal husbandry ministries.
The Rise
It is to be noted that how the
governance and policy making happens to enhance the conditions of women and
Dalits in our nation by upper class men and no wonder why most of these
policies end up being pushed aside as third world feminism and also to be added
that how we are constantly letting first world feminist solutions seep into our
issues which need representation before agency. Also, to remember reading and
learning about madam murmur when she was significantly not talked enough about
in the mainstream media, almost five months ago.
her nomination itself is a moment
of victory, her name being called out aloud itself is a sign that you can't
seclude women of valour from politics no more. This is a happy growth from the
core. this should be celebrated by us the way we celebrated kamala harris, this
is in-house, this is revolutionary in its own kind. this is as important as the
existence of republic of India
Murmu served as the BJP's deputy
president before becoming the Scheduled Tribe Morcha's president in Odisha. She
was re-elected in 2013 to serve as the district president of the BJP's
Mayurbhanj (West) unit. In the same year, she was also elected to the BJP
National Executive (ST Morcha).
The opponent, former Union
Minister Yashwant Sinha, will compete against Ms. Murmu. If chosen, Ms. Murmu
will become India's first tribal woman president and start a new era in
political fraternity. It should be emphasised that although the news and
portrayal have consistently favoured one candidate over the other based on
their background, it is the promised activities to be carried out and the
candidate's future acts that would maintain our country's democracy.
